17th – 24th June
Hertford Comedy Fest returns for a second year and with even more huge names to entice visitors from far and wide, be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!
Opening the festival on 17th June, 8pm is Susan Calman with her new tour The Calman Before The Storm. Expect ninety minutes of comedy that you’ll enjoy if you’re over 16 and won’t be so drunk she’ll have to throw you out!
We’re thrilled to be able to offer another comedy night for charity and this year, it’s a Stand Up For Refugees, in aid of the charity Help Refugees. Headlining the show on 20th June, 8pm will be The Last Leg frontman, Adam Hills. He’ll be joined by a whole host of comedians, including, Bobby Mair, Eleanor Tiernan, compere Tiernan Douieb and local favourite Alistair Barrie.
If you’re recovering from the result of the general election, then Dr Phil’s Health Revolution on 22nd June might be for you. The NHS doctor and BBC journalist combines 2 previously sell-out Edinburgh Fringe shows into one as we laugh, stay sane, plan our death and save the NHS – all in only 99 minutes.
Fancy something a little bit different? There are some great offerings in the Hertford Theatre Studio. Seating just 60, this space offers a more intimate experience, perfect for fringe comedy.
The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Company, apparently Earth’s funniest footwear presents their new show of songs and sketches all about Shakespeare on Friday 23rd June, 7.30pm. Howl at their Hamlet and peer into their Coriolanus!
Later in the same evening, professional fool Bec Hill and the world’s only Human/Cartoon double act, Big Howard and Little Howard bring their Edinburgh Fringe previews to Hertford.
Finishing the comedy festival off brilliantly and with only a handful of tickets left is Russell Kane on 24th June, 8pm. His brand new show explores the pains of growing up and growing down and somehow never being the “right age”.
If Saturday night comedy is your thing but you prefer things a little less mainstream, head to the Studio for Ingrid Dahle and David Jordan in Hoo Haa at 8.30pm. These two very different, award-winning comedians join forces to bring you a magnificent hour of entertainment.
Families are not forgotten at Hertford Comedy Fest and with three brilliant shows to choose from, you’ll be laughing all day Saturday 24th June with your offspring!
In the Studio at 11am, enter the magical world of Pop! by award winning performer, Christian Lee. Think Mr Bean meets Charlie Chaplin in this show full of mayhem and a very large yellow balloon!
At 1pm, families can enjoy Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children. A cheeky hour of songs and comedy for children, reminiscent of Roald Dahl stories and performed by Jay Foreman, an award winning musical comedian whose songs have been heard on BBC Radio 4 and The One Show.
In the auditorium and back by popular demand, families will love our Comedy Club 4 Kids. It’s exactly like a grown-up stand-up gig, but with no rude words or adult themes. Perfect for children aged 6+, heckling is allowed and the show features CBBC’s Johnny Cochrane plus other acts to be confirmed.
Tickets for all shows can be purchased via www.hertfordtheatre.com or 01992 531500.
