A museum that celebrates the history of elementary education. Here young and old can enjoy going back to school, to a place where “learning comes to life”.
Our 1837 Monitorial Schoolroom is the only one of its kind left in the world. We have three other historic classrooms, the Headmaster’s House and our wonderful displays and exhibitions based upon the extraordinary collection of 47,000 objects.
You can enjoy a tour with a volunteer guide (included in admission price) or discover the site’s history on your own with one of our self-guiding leaflets.
After exploring the museum take a break in our delightful tea room and don’t forget to visit the gift shop.
