The Pump House Theatre Watford have announced they’ve teamed up with West End and International theatre producer Chris Wheeler (whose credits include ‘The West End Men’ at the Vaudeville Theatre, ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ for Curve in Leicester and ‘The Last Temptation of Boris Johnson’ for Glynis Henderson Productions) to launch its ‘Spotlight Series’.
A season of staged interviews and masterclasses with top arts industry professionals from across the world. The centre will stage the 90 minute ‘episodes’ once a month from September 19 2020 in its 124 seat theatre and promises audiences (who will be socially distanced at first) a rare and unique opportunity to get “up close and personal” with special guests from all areas of the arts industry.
Guests in the series will include professional writers, directors, performers and practitioners from the theatre, music, television and film industries with the first episode featuring James Meteyard and Olivia Sweeney - the creators of the multi award winning and sell out Gig-Theatre play ‘Electrolyte’. The full line up for the season is still to be announced. Each episode will take audiences on a thrilling insight and experience into the lives and work of some of the world’s finest talent and include exclusive performances, masterclasses and Q&A sessions.
Chris Wheeler says: “As an alumnus of the youth theatre myself, I was inspired to pursue a career in theatre because of the opportunities the Pump House provided me and the people I shared the space with so it is hugely exciting to be back working with Lee, Sharon and the team to deliver the Spotlight Series. It is my hope and ambition that the series will shine a spotlight (see what I did there!?) on a truly diverse range of voices, stories and talent which will entertain and inspire audiences of all kinds. It feels so right to be announcing this season as we begin to emerge from the tumultuous time our industry has faced this year and I hope people will come from across Watford and beyond to support this great organisation and be inspired by the incredible lineup of guests we have secured.”
The inaugural episode on the 19th September will be the first time the centre will welcome back audiences since being forced to close due to Covid-19. Tickets to attend this and all other episodes in person are available on the centres website but may be limited to ensure the venue can adhere to current government guidelines on live performances.
Initially tickets will be just £2 however the producers would like to encourage audiences to consider making an additional donation to the centre to support its work. The Pump House has also invested in setting up live online streaming facilities to provide increased access to events for our audiences while social distance limitations are in place. All episodes of this series will be live streamed and available to download.
