Ashridge Estate in autumn

Ashridge Estate Accessible Walk

Set in the green haven of the Ashridge Estate, these 1km or 2km routes take in ancient woodland and downland, past commons and, in April and May, swathes of beautiful bluebells. Look out for deer, birds and wildlife, enjoy peace and tranquillity and soak up the beauty of this green gem just a short distance from Berkhamsted. Each of the walks is free from stiles, gates and obstructions, and is likely to be suited for those with impaired mobility and for those with wheelchairs, mobility scooters or pushchairs.

Liberty Tea Rooms

For a post walk snack, head to nearby Liberty Tea Rooms for freshly baked pastries, afternoon tea, cream teas, and the chance to relax in this welcoming hub. With community at the heart of everything they do, this fantastic space tries to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe, with accessible features including assistance for those with visual or hearing impairments, accessible seating, restrooms and ramp access, plus a dedicated accessibility page on their website.

Wendover Woods

Wendover woods

This beautiful 325-hectare open access woodland sits on the edge of the Chilterns escarpment, making it the perfect spot for summer strolls, picnics and even spring bluebell spotting. In autumn, the trees are vibrant and perfect for leaf-crunching walks, while wildlife spotters can keep their eyes open for deer, woodland birds, and the rare firecrest. Home to the Boddington hillfort and the highest point in the Chilterns, a visit here offers plenty of picture-perfect views. Hard surfaced paths and a waymarked easy access trail are perfect for wheelchair users and buggies.

The Alford Arms in summer

The Alford Arms

The epitome of cosy country pub, The Alford Arms in Frithsden is a celebration of good, local produce. Award-winning, welcoming, and set in a secluded valley, this is the place to refuel, enjoy a tipple or two and raise a glass to a great day in The Chilterns. Enjoy seasonal produce and delicious classics with a twist, all centred around field to fork dining. Whether you choose to relax by the roaring log fire with your four-legged friend or soak up the sun on the terrace, you can always expect a warm welcome at the Alford Arms.

Puddingstone Distillery

Hertfordshire’s very own small batch gin distillery, Puddingstone is set just five minutes from pretty Tring, and in the heart of the Chilterns. Take the distillery tour and learn what goes into making Puddingstone’s range of gins as they take you from grain to glass and share what makes this award-winning distillery so special. Each tour will offer the chance to taste their gins, so you can sip, sample and decide which one to take home from their on-site shop. Puddingstone Distillery has an AccessAble guide, step-free access and a free place on the tour for support workers or personal assistants.
