From the best spots for brunch to top spots to shop, we’re living like a local with our guide to the must-visits in Hertsmere and Watford. Take a look and start planning your very own weekend, exploring hidden gems and iconic spots.

 

The first destination on our hitlist is Watford, just a short train ride away from London, this vibrant corner of the county is famed for its football, wizarding links and top shopping spots.

C.Loveday & Son

We’re starting off with baked goods, because surely there’s no better way to start? C.Loveday & Son has been in Watford for a whopping 100 years, so you just know their baked goods are top tier. Take your pick of pastries, cakes, pies, biscuits and more, with gluten free, dairy free and vegan options all available.

The Daily Grind

Our next spot promises some of the best coffee around. New to Watford, The Daily Grind has made quite the impression on our locals, serving up great local coffee from great roasteries, Allpress Espresso. Sip on specialty coffee, tuck into artisan pastries and discover what makes this local gem such a favourite. Whatever your tipple – iced latte or matcha, oat milk flat white or just a good old cup of English breakfast, you’re in for a treat.

Amanartis

From latte art to a real cultural treat, Amanartis is a place of creativity, combining a gallery, shop and studio in a beautiful 165 year old chapel on Vicarage Road. Bringing together a beautifully curated designer items, which focuses on emerging local talent. Look out for their calendar of workshops with local makers, or be sure to discover their rotation of exhibitions.

Jackson Jewellers

For a touch of sparkle, head to Jackson Jewellers, another local gem which has been established in the heart of Watford for more than 100 years! Choose from brand new, beautifully designed jewellery, including engagement rings if you’re thinking of popping the question, or peruse their selection of antique and vintage jewels. 

Humo

One of Watford’s most exciting restaurants, Humo cooks over wood and charcoal to serve up delicious, flavourful Spanish fusion dishes. Here you’ll find a menu of seasonal, fresh produce that’s a true taste sensation, whether you choose to settle in for their special weekend lunch menu, enjoy the perfect start to the weekend with breakfast or indulge with the a la carte menu. Plus every Friday and Saturday Watford legend DJ Ray kicks off the weekend with the best house and R’n’B classics.

Dunning's

For post-dinner drinks and a welcoming atmosphere, we recommend Dunning’s, a lively Irish bar that swings into life with live music every weekend, live sports and plenty of tasty bar food, plus a good old Sunday Irish roast for the traditionalists!

Popes Yard Brewery

Craft beer lovers, look out for Popes Yard Brewery beers around town. With a whole host of craft beers, this local favourite can be seen on tap all across Watford, so be sure to look out for these brews for a true taste of local.  

Two Trees Micro

CAMRA Pub of the Year award winner, Two Trees Micro is an absolute must-visit for the independent beer lovers! This tiny free-house serves up some of the finest beer in Watford at its Vicarage Road location, so whether you choose to plump for one of their cask beers, try a craft beer or go for a delicious draft cider, you’re in for a welcoming atmosphere and some real local favourites.

Ava Bar

Offering a real taste of Brazil, Ava brings the vibrant flavours of South America straight to your plate. The Hertsmere Golf Club

Golfers, Hertsmere Golf Club offers stunning views, award-winning quality and top facilities. Seasoned players will love tackling the 18-hole course, while beginners can get lessons from the experts, or try their hand at the driving range. Take on the challenging 18-hole course, designed by golf architect, Donald Steel, before unwinding at the onsite Script Restaurant, which combines fab food with scenic views.

The Three Horseshoes

At the centre of the pretty village of Radlett is The Three Horseshoes, a charming country pub which serves up the best of locally sourced food and drink. Enjoy views across the green while sipping on local ales, wines and delicious meals, from ham hock and vintage cheddar croquettes to pan friend sea bass and grilled artichoke and confit salad. A rural setting, great food and a warm welcome – it’s everything we love in a good pub.

The White Horse

Radlett is really spoiled for choice with country pubs as the White Horse is another proper traditional pub experience. Whether you fancy sipping on cocktails in their beautiful sun-kissed garden in summer, or cosying up with one of their luxury wines and decadent three-course menu in winter, the food is delectable and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed lunch or special dinner.

The Horse and Chains

In Bushy The Horse and Chains is a vibrant pub in the heart of the of it all, with live music, a cosy ambience and fresh dishes crafted from local ingredients. Choose from vegan mains and delicious dinners, including chicken schnitzel, veggie curry and red snapper.
