For this year’s Mother’s Day (that’s Sunday 10th March, in case you needed the reminder!), we’re going above and beyond to show some love to the mothers in our lives. Whether it be mum, a neighbour, your best friend, or anyone in between, this is the day to give a round of applause to those amazing women out there and all of the hard work they do on the daily. Treat her to an afternoon tea to make her feel like the queen that she is, enjoy a leisurely walk for those deep and de-stressing chats, or go all out and book an overnight stay to really show her just how special she is. Whatever you choose, you can find it right on your doorstep here in Hertfordshire – no need to travel far, as the county’s local businesses and experiences have got exactly what you need and more for this year’s Mother’s Day.
Walk and talk
Nothing beats those heart-to-hearts that you get when you go for a walk. The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other, soaking up the surroundings, and breathing in fresh air really puts the mind at ease and makes for the perfect afternoon of walking and talking. Lucky for us, there are so many fantastic walks in Hertfordshire for us to choose from. As the season starts to turn, this is the perfect time to get out there for your chance to spot the beautiful bluebells of Ashridge Estate, the stunning snowdrops at Benington Lordship Gardens, or the dazzling daffodils of Cassiobury Park. Wherever you may be in the county, you’re sure to find a breath-taking walk nearby for you to enjoy this Mother’s Day.
Roasts and roars
For something a bit more leisurely, head on over to Knebworth House where you and the kids can celebrate mum with a Sunday roast and (to keep the little ones entertained) access to the Dinosaur Trail on the grounds. Set in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, this is one afternoon that you’ll be sure to remember. Enjoy a glass of prosecco upon arrival, followed by an exquisite two course meal (plus a separate children’s meal so everyone’s happy!), including a mouth-watering main and delightful dessert. Be sure to book in soon and give mum the gift of food and leisure this year.
Exclusive days out
Rarely open to the public, treat mum like the VIP that she is with an afternoon tea in Rothamsted Manor's Grade I listed Jacobean House. Quiche Lorraine, sausage rolls, strawberry tarts, delightful tea - you and mum could be sat together enjoying the treats at Rothamsted come 10th March, so book in today and give her that top treatment.
Family on the farm
At Tewinbury Farm, you and the family can treat mum to a special evening of food, entertainment and good vibes at The Farm Yard. Relax for the evening as you sit back and enjoy the time spent together. Or, for something a bit more indulgent, book in an afternoon tea in the 17th century Tythe Barn on site. Enjoy the homemade scones, finger sandwiches, as well as a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Here's to mum!
It's beginning to look a lot like...Mother's Day!
Sopwell House are bringing you and mum a fantastic Mother’s Day this year with the return of their Michael Buble tribute act. Book in and enjoy a day of Champagne, afternoon tea, live entertainment, and a gift for all mothers to take home. If the Bubs doesn't do it for you, then skip the music and go straight for the afternoon tea – finger sandwiches, scones, and champagne galore! If you’re looking for the perfect spot for a Sunday Roast, you’re in luck again, as The Brasserie at Sopwell House brings you three course lunch with all the trimmings. Fill up on some delicious food, and (for that extra special treat) head down to the luxurious Cottonmill Spa for that top notch treatment.
Gin-teresting days out
Are you looking for the ideal gift for this Mother’s Day? While there are still spaces left, book a gin distillery tour at the Puddingstone Distillery. With dates still available in April, join experts and founders Ben and Kate Marston as they take you behind the scenes of their award-winning distillery. Enjoy two gin cocktails, some samples, and even a branded glass to take home with you and remember the day by. With great accessibility throughout, this is one experience that everyone can enjoy.
Food for the soul
Whether you fancy a chicory salad with courgette & basil arancini, or maybe a baked spiced aubergine with a sticky date & ginger pudding (yes, our mouths are watering just writing this), you’ve got to try out Lussmanns Sustainable Kitchen this Mother’s Day. You and mum can enjoy an afternoon of some of the best food you’ve ever tried, right here in Herts. With restaurants in St Albans, Hertford, Harpenden, Hitchin, and Berkhamsted, you’re set for food wherever you may be in the county. Voted the Best Sustainable Restaurant Group, amongst many other things, you can dine in peace when you dine with Lussmanns.
