We do love a recap of some of our top Instagram posts - especially when the pictures people either tag us in, use #VisitHerts or we just spot on Instagram, are so incredibly beautiful, peaceful or reminiscent of a warm summer's day. So take a scroll through and find the location of you next sunrise walk or town wander! Make sure to follow our account if you haven't already (@visithertsuk).
Brocket Hall
This stunning image from @a.c.h.images was our most liked of 2022, and are there any flaws in it that would mean otherwise?! We love that the golden light is pinpointing the bridge as the frost lifts off the vast lawn. Equally, how can we ignore the rather splendid backdrop that is Brocket Hall itself?
Hemel Hempstead
Our county is one of the greenest there is, with so much outdoor space there's always somewhere to take an afternoon wander. This shot from @tomcwillmott shows off Hemel Hempstead's rolling hills (we're in Dacorum after all!) - which were also used for After Life's filming, so it possibly was recognised by a few people. To get those onscreen locations, take a read of our Filming Locations in Herts feature and also the wonderful Stepping Through Film's scene setting pictures!
Bluebells - Berkhamsted
As we've just mentioned above, Herts is one big green county, and in springtime the green canopy shades a plethora of purple in the form of bluebells. This beautiful shot by Tony Hutchins resonated with a lot of people as the hope of spring after a dark and gloomy winter always perks our spirits! However, it's not just Berkhamsted that provides the goods - here's our bluebells in Hertfordshire list.
Herts' countryside
While we may have just said winter is dark, this shot certainly isn't from @alanincornwall who took a chilly morning walk to this stunningly isolated tree. The result was certainly a richly textured shot that combines all of those most prominent morning colours. Need some scenes to setup that perfect shot? Here's our guide to the county's best Winter Walks.
Hitchin
Hertfordshire's picturesque towns are something we're most proud of - and Hitchin is right up there. With a cloudy sunset, the warming light of the town's cafes and shops was captured by @m_photocreations over the cobbles and it makes us feel all wrapped up for the winter ahead. Perhaps consider a winter break in Herts so you too can capture these warming scenes.
Digswell Viaduct
If you've ever caught a train from London to the north or somewhere like Stevenage, you would have passed over Digswell Viaduct. From the train you get a lofty view of the county but underneath it is where you can appreciate the grandeur, and this shot from @olaole2017 was perfectly timed to capture the sunset through its arches.
Hertford
As you roll through Hertford, it's hard not to be taken by the orange glow of this iconic building - and @nikkilewisphotos capture proved popular! With its half-timbered facade, it was once home to an antiques store for over 100 years, and is now home to a collaborative art business. Herts' countryside
Another crisp morning produces another sublime photo! With a painted orange sky, Hertfordshire's countryside perks up as the morning sun arrives. To get scenes like @366daysofphotography captured, we can only suggest you head out soon as the mornings are quite the sun is still late to rise! If an early Saturday stroll is where you'd like to grab the photos, take a peek at our Walking Trails feature.
Brocket Hall
We started with Brocket Hall, and we're ending the list there too! This #MidweekMystery post from @joe0112 could've quite easily nabbed the top spot too, with the starry sky punctuated by the shooting star. We can't think of a more crisp and distinct image to start January off, and we're happy that some people managed to get the location right without being too distracted! Take a peek too at our Stargazing in Herts feature for some more inspiration.
